Narrative

Personal care is a broad term that supports basic personal hygiene and activities of daily living, including dressing, grooming and toileting. The Right Choice trained caregivers assist with personal care needs ranging from stand-by assistance to full care depending on each client’s individual needs.

This can include basic tasks, such as bathing, mobility assistance, incontinence and toileting care, preparing and serving meals, to more hands-on personal care including position changes for those clients that are bedbound ad specialized care for those with memory issues or cognitive impairments, fall risk assessment and prevention, change in condition monitoring. Personal home care services can also include assistance with outings, social events, shopping trips, and other activities of interest to maintain engagement both physically and emotionally.

Home support services help seniors and people with disabilities to remain independent and to live in their own home as long as possible.

Home support services are direct care services provided by The Right Choice workers to clients who require personal assistance with activities of daily living, such as:

  • mobility (walking, sitting, standing)

  • nutrition (healthy eating)

  • lifts and transfers

  • bathing and dressing

  • cueing (providing prompts to assist with the completion of tasks)

  • grooming and toileting

Home support services may also include safety maintenance activities as a supplement to personal assistance when needed. These activities may include clean-up, laundry of soiled bedding or clothing, and meal preparation.

In addition, our workers may do some specific nursing and rehabilitation tasks that have been delegated by health care professionals.

Home support services can be considered respite care, to give caregivers temporary relief from the demands of providing care.
