Narrative

Through the Massachusetts’ Adult Foster Care (AFC) Program, program people live in a private home (an adult foster care home). A caregiver  gives around-the-clock supervision, personal care assistance, and homemaker services.

This program is intended for state residents who require help due to an inability to independently complete their Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). ADLs include bathing, grooming, dressing, eating, mobility, and toiletry.

A program member can be as young as 16. This program is particularly important to seniors. Physical limitations may be due to the natural process of aging. Medical conditions, and cognitive issues, such as those commonly seen in persons with Alzheimer’s disease, intellectual disabilties (DD) and related dementias, can be cause for needed help.

Group Adult Foster Care (GAFC) Program is a MassHealth program. It provides essential care and support to people who are elderly and/or disabled living in the state of Massachusetts. Program members receive help in completing their Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). ADLs include bathing, personal hygiene, dressing/undressing, eating, mobility, and toiletry. Nursing oversight and help with homemaker tasks, such as laundry and light housecleaning is also given.
